QGHA Stakeholder Workshop – January 2016

On 28 January, UQ hosted the first stakeholder workshop for the Queensland Genomics Health Alliance at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The workshop brought together 22 executives from various Queensland Hospital and Health Services and research institutions to discuss the vision and fundamental frameworks of the Alliance, and the ways to best leverage Queensland’s expertise to achieve those visions and goals. The workshop demonstrated keen enthusiasm for collaboration and unified objectives around delivering health outcomes for Queenslanders.

Potential governance models, core foci, and demonstration projects for QGHA were key discussion topics at the workshop. Through working closely with the network of expertise in Queensland and colleagues at the Melbourne and Australian Genomics Health Alliances, workshop participants provided endorsement of the overall goals for QGHA, including:

  • a focus on developing capabilities such as genomics workforce;
  • improvement on evaluation of genomics in both research and healthcare applications;
  • establishment of ethical and legal frameworks for genomics in healthcare.

All contributions from the workshop will be incorporated into the development of the QGHA framework and business plan. A draft version of the business plan will be released over the next few weeks for consultation.
